In April/May 2023 we are offering a 5-day generative somatics training near Budapest, Hungary.
The training will be held from April 30th to May 6th, 2023, at Biofalu in Máriahalom, 40 km nortwest of Budapest.
Arrival: Sunday, April 30th, afternoon. Departure: Sat, May 6th, 2023, lunch time.
This course is geared towards grassroots activists from Central Eastern Europe and Caucasus. Around 25 people, accepted through application, will spend 5 days together to work on personal and collective transformation.
The course will be held in accessible International English. Sadly, we are unable to provide simultaneous translation. Space will be made for comprehension questions and people’s native languages.
Who is this course for?
Everybody involved with grassroots struggles within Central Eastern Europe and Caucasus is welcome to apply. Applications from systemically underrepresented groups within activist communities are especially invited.
We want to name that currently most participants and the teaching team members in our courses are white. We are engaged in a process of learning around dismantling white supremacy and decolonizing our teaching and being. We do hold a commitment towards racial justice. We know that this process takes time and unlearning, and we are grateful for feedback and suggestions as we walk and work.
Similarly, most participants and the teaching team members are able-bodied, and disability justice is a growing edge for us. The practices we do involve standing or sitting and movement. We do our best to make them adaptable to a wide range of bodies and capacities. Please write to us if you would like to discuss your particular access needs.
Trainers:
The course is led by a team of trainers: Gesine, Hilary, Ela, Asia and Jael.
All members of the teaching team have a long history of involvement in grassroots struggles. Gesine and Hilary have been part of the generative somatics teacher training in the US. Ela, Asia and Jael are teachers in training and have been involved in organizing and practicing generative somatics in Central Eastern Europe since 2014. Bios here.
Finances:
We hold a strong commitment to making this training accessible to participants regardless of their ability to pay. At the same time we need to cover the costs of the course. We have some additional funding but need most of the course basics to get covered by participants.
We are offering a sliding scale of 50-500 € in order to be as inclusive as as possible. Please pay as much as you honestly can. Do not hesitate to contact us if you need support for travel costs (including whatever help we can provide to expedite quick or complicated visas), or if financial limitations would otherwise stop you from being able to attend.
Logistics:
Accommodation: Shared bedrooms.
Food: Vegan. Request for participants’ help with kitchen tasks.
If you have any dietary needs let us know.
This training is alcohol and drug free.
Accessibility: Biofalu has ground floor access to all of the spaces we will be using, including bathrooms, bedrooms, practice rooms and kitchen/dining area. They have some easier and some more complex terrain on the grounds, and a willingness to support access needs to the greatest extent possible.
What else you need to know:
This course is geared towards participant’s personal transformation and our collective capacity for resilience, power and healing. We request that people use the practice only for personal use and do not teach it unless they have been trained to pass it on.
Participants will not walk away with a tool box of new methods but with a set of practices and somatic experiences that transform and heal life over time. Participation in the course will impact people’s political activism by who they become and what they are able to bring to their work.
